  • let me wake...

    jesus draw me ever nearer
as i labor through the storm
you have called me to this passage
and i'll follow, though i'm worn

may this journey bring a blessing
may i rise on wings of faith
and at the end of my heart's testing
with your likeness let me wake

jesus guide me through the tempest
keep my spirit staid and sure
when the midnight meets the morning
let me love you even more

let the treasures of the trial
form within me as i go
and at the end of this long passage
let me leave them at your throne

may this journey bring a blessing
may i rise on wings of faith
and at the end of my heart's testing
with your likeness let me wake...

  • ernie

it's been a long time since i've had a dog... i remember in 7th grade after i moved into a house, my dad brought home the cutest cocker spaniel puppy, and seeing how much we loved her, bought another puppy the next day! today, we welcomed ernie into our lives :) he's really my roommate's dog, but i get to enjoy him too! he's about a year old and we suspect he's a dachshund/chihuahua mix. he was found limping and was taken to an emergency pet clinic, where they took care of him very well! let the dog adventures begin!

  • midnight baking itch

once upon a time there was a little girl who was an avid food network watcher. she watched food network every chance she got, salivating at all the deliciousness the chefs were cooking up. one evening, the little girl had an idea. she would make some sugar cookies.

    "who will look up recipes?"
    "i," stated the little girl.

"who will go to ralph's at midnight to buy baking soda?"
    "i," volunteered the little girl.

"who will mix the dough with her hands because she doesn't have a mixer?"
    "i," she said gladly.

"who will impatiently wait for the cookies to bake?"
"i," said the little girl patiently.

when the cookies were taken out, and cooled on a rack,

"who will help me eat the delicious cookies?"

  • come back, everyone!

watching julie & julia for the 3rd time and was suddenly compelled to read my old entries again...

as i continued clicking "older.." reminiscing, laughing, holding my heart, i became sad that no one in my circle of friends blogs anymore. damnyoufacebook! i also know that my once faithful readers will not even know that i'm updating. and maybe that'll be a good thing. just me and xanga again.

i just moved in with rosierose last week after two faithful years living with the best roommate ever: minders. she actually came over today. CAME OVER. that has never happened before because before we lived together, we were too far for her to ever come over. we took a stroll to larchmont village and spent a grand time looking through various sales, bookstores, and shared a whoopie pie :) it's the end of an era, but the beginning of a new one! so much has changed since i last blogged...

i am with the love of my life, my school is moving into our own building, i am approaching my 5th year of teaching... i hope to keep this up. i WILL keep up! too tired now. wine is my friend.

  • comeback..?

i just spent quite a significant amount of time reading through old xanga entries... little anecdotes or old pictures conjured up forgotten memories and certain stages in my life, prompting me to do some serious reflection. i think i need to bring blogging back (damn you, facebook!) i wish i had more entries starting from my transition back to LA and the kind of teaching year i've had in comparison to the amazing 2 years i had in sj.

i have a hard month ahead of me as i tame this... "beast" that is my thesis... but i will prevail! Lord help me!

  • merry christmas

it hardly feels like christmas this year... but i'm thankful for the friends i'm surrounded by.
teaching this year has proven to be extremely difficult and i'm sweetly enjoying my break so far. it's been a good time of relaxing, eating, and lots of time in front of the tube. i hope everyone has a joyous holiday season! thank you Jesus for giving us yourself.

  • political math

I'm sitting here grading papers, and this is a math story problem my Alfie came up with today:

"There were 9 Obamas and 2 McCains. How many more Obamas than McCains?"

Yes, you read it right :D He even came in today wearing an Obama/Biden button on his hat. I think his IQ is too high for his own good... Contrasted with one of my girls who doesn't know how many fingers she has...

    Gotta love my job.

  • happy october

i can't believe october is here already!

i had my first meltdown of the year today during my 25 minute lunch break- 15 of which i spent secretly crying in the vice principal's office...

after venting to my principal today after our meeting, she sat with me and drew me a bell curve and explained our anxiety levels when we experience change, as if i were 12. but it was surprisingly soothing! between helping one of my boys grieve the death of his hamster, "Darth Hamster", and the 100 degree weather, i'm so glad to be relaxing at home and am awaiting a hug from my very huggable roommate!

  • heal the world...

    make it a better place
    for you and for me
    and the entire HUMAN RACE.

i ran the nike 10k called "The HUMAN RACE" this year. we had the option to donate to one of 3 charities: WWF, The UN Refugee Agency (my choice), or the Lance Armstrong Foundation. i believe there were over 12,000 people running in LA, but hundreds of thousands of other runners all over the world. the race started at 8:31:08 yesterday, 8/31/08 and it was amazing! there was a kanye west concert afterwards complete with pot smokers (how did they carry it while they ran?) and fireworks at the end.

more pics to come... but here are my friends and me getting ready at my place.
